External and Internal Compression — Matching the Spring

External compressors grip the coil from the outside with two hooks; internal compressors hold the spring from the inside with jaws or plates. The correct pattern follows the spring design, the strut assembly and the access available on the vehicle rather than a general preference.

Hook engagement and seat geometry matter more than nominal capacity once the spring is under load. Our forged steel hooks are heat-treated for strength and wear resistance, and the clamping and release mechanism is designed so the spring stays captured through the full compression and release stroke.
